7th and 8th of March 2009 Wow what a weekend for the Skyhigh Crew! We did a total of 27 tandems this weekend with some very special people sharing their first skydives with us. Our aircraft operator was running a little behind so Saturday got off to a latish start for everyone except Sammy and Tracey who had been at JSC since 6am after receiving some slightly misleading information from a friend. That didn’t deter them from screaming their hearts out and having a great time with us though. Straight after them came Bruce and Ann-Louise for Bruce’s 30th birthday and believe us he had an absolute blast! Happy birthday dude! Next up were Marriete and Desre before Gian, Willie and Francois went up to carry out the dare they hade made with each other. All of them had a blast and were relieved to be back on solid ground again after the jump. The rest of the afternoon seemed to rush by in a blur with Hannes and Lourens, JP and Nadia and Chris and Russel plummeting from the PAC and landing safely with Tandem Instructors Glen and Dave. Then it was the turn of some of Skyhigh’s return friends: Adam and Sean and Adam’s girlfriend Tiaana. Adam and Sean jumped with us a few weeks ago and came back for round two bringing Tiaana who had no idea she was jumping until she stepped onto the DZ and saw canopies landing. She did a superb job and loved every second of it. As did Adam and Sean who are now keen to do AFF, nice guys! Last up for the day were Malcolm and another Shaun who were cool, calm and collected from take off till landing. Sunday morning arrived with clear skies and a few small hangovers around the DZ thanks to the drinks flowing freely in the Bush Pub on Saturday night. This didn’t deter Dave, Glen, PJ and Marius from taking Burhaan, Mohammed, Yasmin and Cassim up on their jumps with Natalie and Karen following close behind, well done girls. Then it was the turn of a JSC legend to go jumping, none other than Gavin the man who runs our bar and who is directly responsible for keeping the Skyhigh Crew’s thirst under control after hours. Judging by his face in the sky and on the ground Gavin enjoyed it to the max. And last but not least it was Christelle’s turn to taste the sky, she’s becoming a true little dropzone rat and it was a pleasure to have her jump with us. Well done to all of you who jumped with us this weekend, your smiles and reactions to the jumps are why we do this in the first place. Featured Crew member of the week. The rest of the crew can be found at http://www.skyhightandems.co.za/page.php?6 . PJ Eales – Videographer PJ has been skydiving since December 2002 and has done just over 1000 skydives. In his time in the sport he has flown camera for various formation skydiving and freefly teams in both friendly competition and at the South African National Championships, helping them earn bronze, silver and gold medals along the way. He has also had the privilege of jumping at Perris Valley Skydiving and The World Freefall Convention in the USA – training with world class coaches and spending time in the wind tunnel. PJ has two main loves in our sport: tandem video and canopy piloting. He’s the joker of the group, always inventing new ways to make our passengers laugh – he’s the true definition of the word “vidiot”. His other passion is canopy piloting and when he’s not in the sky playing with tandem pairs or editing videos on the ground he can be seen swooping the pond at JSC. Upcoming Events PARTY PARTY PARTY This weekend is party weekend at JSC, come jol with us! See you at 11 000ft, The Skyhigh crew
Submitted by Dave

28th February and 1st of March 2009
Yvette was taken for her 6th tandem to make sure she still had full trust in Dave before they get married next month and she becomes a partner in Skyhigh Tandems.
Then it was the turn of 13 year old Nicola who enjoyed her skydive tremendously who stole the idea of going on a skydive from her brother and beat him to it. Then the weather gods decided we had had a good years so far with minimal interruption and the skies closed and the taps opened. Sunday morning was a beautiful morning. The wind was blowing and the clouds were spread out making for perfect tandem skydive weather.
Debbie was up early and celebrated the rest of her life with a skydive becoming one with the elements before Jaco was surprised for a belated birthday present by Daleen with a skydive at Johannesburg skydiving club with the Skyhigh Tandems crew. Just to make sure Jaco had a good time Daleen went out and had an awesome skydive as well.
Well done to all of you who jumped with us this weekend.
Featured Crew member of the week.
Marius Vrey - Tandem Master - Camera Man
Did my first static line jump in January 2000. After a disastrous malfunction, went back up again the same day, vowing that the horse won’t throw me twice in one day. Came back two weeks later, and started the AFF course. Got hooked on formation skydiving, and entered into Nationals 2001 for my first Junior 4-way team. We won Gold that year, and REALLY got hooked. Participated in Nationals every year after that, winning some silver and bronze medals along the way. Eventually got interested in aerial videography, and got involved with doing video for a couple of 4-way teams, also representing them in Nationals. In between this, decided to expand my skydiving skills, by participating in some larger formation skydiving. Jumped at the African Freefall Convention at Mafikeng for the last 4 years. Went to Lapallise , France in 2006, Vichy, France in 2007, and Toogoolawah, Australia in 2008, performing in some exiting larger formations, with the largest being a 48-way formation. Tandem videography got me hooked, and I love the feeling when I see the absolute exhilaration in the faces of our passengers whilst in freefall, and at landing. In between, have acquired my D-license, Jumpmaster rating, Pro rating, and FS coach’s rating. Have also qualified as a Tandem Instructor, but got too scared:-) 100 jumps away from doing jump number 2000, and can’t wait for the next skydive – Whoohoo!
Upcoming Events
PARTY PARTY PARTY On the weekend of 14 and 15 March there will be a huge party at Johannesburg Skydiving Club. The entrance will be R20 which will go towards the stock, glasses and sound equipment that was stolen out of the bar a couple of weeks ago. There will be three bands and buffalo milk. On Duty this weekend is Glen, Dave, Helge, Marius and PJ

Dave and Yvette will be tying the knot in Saldanha on the 21st of March with the rest of the crew as witnesses to their undying love for each other.

See you at 11 000ft,
The Skyhigh crew
Submitted by Dave

21st and 22nd February 2009
What an awesome weekend to get some skydives in. the sky was blue with the clouds just hanging around giving a wee bit of shade from time to time.
On Saturday morning we started with Rupal and Binduka before Jayson and Neil got their turns.
When it was Stephan’s turn he didn’t quite know what was on the cards. He was brought to the dropzone blind folded and escorted to the centre before the blind fold was removed so he could see the parachutes coming in for their landings. Shaking like a rattle and after a tequila and a beer, his nerves calmed down and he went for the joyride…having an absolute blast…
Then we had Freddie and his wife Deirdre…. Before Henry from Easy Jet felt how it is to kit up and leave an aircraft in flight for a change. He enjoyed the experience tremendously.
Then of course it was Grant whose sons have already taken the plunge.
Well done to all of you who jumped with us this weekend.
Featured Crew member of the week.
Helge Harms - Camera Guy
Originally a KwaZulu-Natal boy, Helge moved up to Jo'burg in 1995, did his first skydive in Wonderboom when he was 17 years old and absolutely loved it! School, studies and early work life unfortunately only allowed him to skydive very little but in 2006 he took the sport up more seriously and found a second home at JSC. The skydiving community in South Africa has really become like an extended family to him. He's a static-line baby and proud of it! Since 2006 he has done around 500 skydives at JSC. His preferred skydiving discipline is Canopy Formation which his brother got him into as soon as their skydiving careers allowed and they've had some truly unforgettable jumps together. Freefall Videography and Photography have always fascinated Helge - this is one way to take your awesome skydiving experiences home and relive them over and over again. Tandem Videography is special to him because he gets to live the first-jump angst, exhilaration, craziness, freedom and expression with each and every Tandem passenger and record these experiences for them. Having been there himself, knowing what it means to accept the risks and understanding the resulting thrill, he enjoys every skydive as much as the passenger does if not more. According to Helge there are few things as rewarding as seeing that uncontrollable grin on a tandem passenger's face after an awesome skydive. Helge got into skydiving to live and enjoy life and the experience has by far exceeded his expectations.
Upcoming Events
PARTY PARTY PARTY On the weekend of 14 and 15 March there will be a huge party at Johannesburg Skydiving Club.

14th and 15th February 2009
Well Valentines weekend shaped up to be yet another amazing couple of days with the Skyhigh Crew and our passengers. We finally know what it means when people say “Love is in the air!” - around 11 000 feet in the air to be exact.
Saturday was definitely birthday day with Dave and PJ taking Erin and Lloyd up for Lloyd’s birthday. As soon as they had their feet planted firmly back on Mother Earth, and once Vissie was available, we took Kosie and Hanili out into the sky. Hanili was a little nervous to start but once she exited the PAC it was all systems go and she absolutely loved it.
Next up a cool, calm and collected Ana decided it was her turn to get some airtime and before she knew it she was on the ride of her life.
Lastly we took Hein out for his birthday courtesy of Jana.
Sunday was an absolute blast with six guys from Devlin’s bachelor’s crew doing tandems: Delvin, his father Steven, Ashley, Brad, Ryan and Gavin took to the sky. There were mixed reactions on the ground and in the plane with Ryan taking the prize for most nervous passenger of the day, but as you can see from their pics they had the time of their lives!
And to put the cherry on the top of a day of perfect skydiving weather at JSC Mayur, Irene and Vilde went for a skydive.
Well done to all of you who jumped with us this weekend, and Devlin, good luck on the marriage dude, we’re looking forward to you bringing the lucky lady out to JSC and celebrating with us
Upcoming Events
The weekend of 21 and 22 February will have Glen and Marius on duty for those who want to come out and do a skydive at the Johannesburg Skydiving Club.

Submitted by Dave

Valentines Day Special. Flowers: R350. Dinner: R650. Diamond Earrings: R4,500. Tossing your deserving partner out of a perfectly good aeroplane: Priceless!
7th and 8th February 2009

The weekend of the 7th and 8th of February actually started on the 6th when the Skyhigh Crew and a few friends drove out to the DZ early to braai with Leon and Lara of Meet Extreme Adventures . The morning of the 7th got off to a slow start because an accident on the N12 highway forced jumpers and tandem passengers alike to find alternate routes to the DZ. Thankfully though with the weather Gods on our side and Justin, our pilot, behind the stick of the PAC we quickly made up time and managed to get through six double tandems with Glen and Vissie as Tandem Masters and Dave and PJ behind the lens.
The highlight of the day though was one of our passengers who came to us courtesy of Meet Extreme Adventures. Her name was Joanne and she was there to celebrate her birthday and celebrate it she did! Immediately on landing she said “I want to go again” and soon enough there she was walking out to boarding point kitted up and ready to go.
Lunch was a welcome break from jumping but it was over quickly and we were back out there doing what we do best: making people smile from ear to ear! We took the last group of passengers from Johannesburg on the ride of their lives and finished the day by taking Leon on his very first skydive.
Sunday we took up three Tandem passengers for a skydive.
Well done to all of you who jumped with us this weekend!

Upcoming Events

The weekend of 14 and 15 February will have Dave and PJ on duty for those who want to come out and do a skydive at the Johannesburg Skydiving Club. There will be a bachelors group on Sunday of about 20 guys, 5 will be jumping
Submitted by Dave

We decided to hold the tandems back until it was safe to skydive. Nearly the whole crew was on duty with Glen, Dave and Vissie taking the passengers out on tandems and Helge and Marius taking video of the new adventurers. When things eventually got started adrenalin was had by all.
First up were the crew from Meet Extreme Adventures.

Upcoming Events

Night Jumps on the 7th of February have been cancelled due to CAA requirements.
Skyhigh Tandems News Letter
This is a weekly newsletter we send out to all of you peeps that have shared the sky with us over the past few months. Here you'll find news on happenings within Skyhigh Tandems, at The Johannesburg Skydiving Club and of course, be able to check out pictures from our latest adventures at 11000ft.
Feel free to forward this on to friends who are thinking about jumping and encourage them to get in touch with us.
24 January 2009
The 24th of January 2009 started much like any other day at JSC: the plane was pulled out, fuelled up and ready to go, the winds were light and variable and Crazy Dave and PJ were on duty for the day.

We started with Otto’s group: Natasha, Anna, Crystal and Jeannette, four ladies who were raring to go! There were smiles, nervous giggles and much laughter but they enjoyed their jumps to no end.
Unfortunately around mid-day the clouds moved in and after taking a very tall Pole named “Majek” on a slightly wet, cloud filled skydive we sought cover wherever we could and the rain bucketed down for an hour or so.

But all was not lost! Thankfully in the late afternoon the clouds cleared and we introduced Laura to the sky – as you can see from her pictures she had a ball.

Well done to all of you who jumped with us this weekend!

Upcoming Events
The weekend of 31January is promising to be a weekend to remember - we have 20 odd tandems booked and a live band playing in the bush pub on Saturday night – come and join us for some skydiving and revelry.
See you at 11 000ft,
The Skyhigh crew
Submitted by Dave
